Car history: The big history of small Car

The XX-th century beginning is marked in world history by a car industry birth. The end of 30th years of last century associates, as a rule, with Germany, Adolf Hitler and the war beginning in Europe. However 1938, Germany and Hitler are connected by one more event - car Volkswagen Beetle occurrence, or well-known "Bug". This small amusing car opens header page of history of well-known concern Volkswagen. On a legend, Adolf Hitler has personally combined its form from a paper towel. But it only a legend...

Concern Volkswagen was born from sharp requirement of Europe for the economic and reliable car. Ferdinand Porshe (Ferdinand Porsche) became its founder. Certainly, all know, that the world glory of Porsche was brought absolutely by other cars, however he always dreamt to create the compact car. For realisation of this project the well-known designer at first addresses to manufacturers of motorcycles - Zundapp, and then NSU. In NSU Porsche has developed Type 32 in which rear there was an engine with four horizontally located cylinders and an air cooling. This project also should become a basis of future "Bug", but for some reasons release of this model and has not been continued.

In 1934 on the Berlin motor show Adolf Hitler has delivered a speech, in which promised to assist manufacture of compact and economic cars for middle class. After that Hitler's meeting and Porsche with which history Volkswagen has begun has taken place. Within four years the designer developed model of the new car, and in 1938 the base of new car factory has been put. By the way, from this year history Volkswagen reckons.

At first Hitler has named new car KdF-Wagen (Kraft durch Freude Wagen, the car Powerful and delivering pleasure). The name at all was not pleasant to "father" Beetle, but it was pleasant Volkswagen. Under this name the car also has been mass-produced. Name Beetle ("Bug") had national etymology and for the first time has appeared in the newspaper «The New York Times» in 1938.
