Occurrence history of left- and right-sided traffic

In the USA initially transport movement was carried out on a left side, but, according to historians, the love to freedom and the contradiction of England has forced them to move on a right side. On one of versions, the French general Mari Zhozef Lafaet, one of the most ardent fighters for independence of a crown of the Great Britain was the ancestor of right-hand movement in America. Canada has held on with link sided movement till 20th years of the XX-th century.

And further formation of the left or right driving direction of transport was caused by the neighborhood with the certain countries - the former British colonies in Africa (Sierra Leone, Gambia, Nigeria, Ghana) have replaced link sided movement on right-hand as settled down near to the former French colonies. And the former Portuguese colony Mozambique has replaced right-hand movement on opposite because of the neighborhood with the former British colonies.

As to a wheel arrangement it by the first cars in most cases was from a "wrong" right side. And without dependence from on what side there went cars. It became that the driver could is better to see the overtaken car. Besides, at such arrangement of a wheel the driver could leave the car directly on sidewalk, instead of on a carriageway. By the way, the first mass car with a "correct" wheel was Ford T.

In some countries there are questions at issue because of a wheel arrangement - for example, on the Bahamas people basically go by cars with the left wheel as they are convenient for bringing from the USA, and in the east our country, on the contrary, the majority of cars with the right wheel because of affinity with Japan. Among the countries with link sided movement England, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Bermuda, Cyprus, India, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, New Guinea, Sacred Elena's island, the republic of South Africa, the British Virgin Islands, the American Virgin Islands, Zimbabwe and many other things are registered such, as Australia.
