Occurrence history of left- and right-sided traffic

In Russia at Peter I right-hand movement was accepted for norm, vehicles and sledge parted, as a rule, keeping a right side, and in 1752 empress Elizabeth Petrovna has published the official decree about introduction in streets of the Russian cities of right-hand movement of carriages and carriers. Among the western countries for the first time the law on the movement side has been published in England is there was a bill from 1756 under which statement movement on the London bridge should be on a left side, and in movements on right the penalty at a rate of 1 pound of silver was raised. And only after the lapse of 20 years the English government has published historical «the Road act» in which introduction of link sided movement has been registered. By the way, the same movement was accepted on the iron line which have opened in 1830 Manchester - Liverpool. On one of assumptions, England took it from sea rules as was the island state, and navigation was unique connection with other countries - on them the vessel passed other vessel which came nearer to it on the right.

The Great Britain consider as "parent" of link sided movement, this example was adopted also by its colonies (India, Pakistan, Australia) and other countries of the world. During Great French revolution in 1789 Napoleon has issued the order the military man to move on a road right side, and subsequently the side of movement of transport and military columns was defined by country political views: the countries - Napoleon's allies (Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Spain) have established right-hand movement, and the countries-opponents (Britain, Portugal, Austro-Hungary) - link sided. In Austria in different cities movement went on the different sides, and then and this country was pulled to the right. In Japan, the second-large country with link sided movement, it was accepted in 1859 under the influence of the ambassador of the queen of Victoria of sir Ruterforda Alkoka.

After the termination of the Japanese occupation in 1946 South Korea and Democratic People's Republic of Korea have replaced link sided movement with the right-hand. Czechoslovakia entering earlier in Austro-Hungarian empire, has passed to right-hand movement in 1938. Sweden became one of last countries which have replaced a driving direction, for this purpose in 1963 the State commission on transition to right-hand movement has been created. Its problems included working out and reduction into a life, and officially right-hand movement has been fixed in 1967. In this gala day, on September, 3rd, it is equal in 4:50 mornings all cars and other vehicles should stop, replace a strip on opposite and renew movement at 5:00. For maintenance of safety during this change, the power have for a short while entered a speed limitation mode.
