Daimler and Benz - founders of
automotive industry

Modernisation
of the first four-wheel "Benz" (1892) proceeded till 1901. Despite
unpretentiousness of a design, such cars it has been exhausted more
than 2300 cars.
In 1909 the firm has faced difficulties.
Despite Benz's will, the group of the French engineers who have
designed more perfect car model has been created. It have tried to
introduce in manufacture in 1903, but all has come to an end failure
that has forced Charles Benz to forget about the ambitions: he has
offered the modern four-cylinder engine which is meeting the
requirements of the new chassis. After start to manufacture of
"hybrid" model of business of the company slowly have gone uphill.
Unlike Benz, the Daimler was not torn
forward. Showing the big interest to stationary engines, he together
with colleague Wilhelm Maybach (1846-1929) in
1889 has created first functional car "Daimler", having started it
in manufacture in 1895. Simultaneously the company widely licensed
the engines, thereby laying the foundation for release such
unprecedented before models, as French "Panhard" and "Peugeot". A
year later (in 1889) there was a racing car power of 24 h.p. which,
thanks to the technical novelties put in pawn in it, in particular
the four-cylinder engine, than 80,5 km/hour accelerated momentum
more. " Daimler-Benz "Was bulky and concealed in itself certain
dangers. Subsequently the co-owner of firm, Austrian banker Emil Ellinek, has declared necessity of manufacture of
easier on weight and the obedient car in steering. He was engaged in
careful studying of the market, and soon was a lot of wishing to
have such car.
As a result the model widely known nowadays
named in honour of his daughter, Mercedes was born. It was published
in the end of 1900 and became, according to historians, a prototype
of the modern car.
The first "Mercedes" (December, 1890) - a
prototype of the modern car with the elementary body intending for
participation in a car racing. Instead of it the four-seater
"walking" body could be installed.
The model "Mercedes" has united 35 h.p.: a
gear shift, a cellular radiator and ignition from a low voltage
magnet - from former models of Daimler - and technical innovations -
low located easy stamped frame and a mechanical drive gear of inlet
valves (though subsequently it was necessary to refuse this
novelty). The combination of these technical decisions has given a
life to the car which differed from the predecessors more reliable
operation and was unusually obedient to steering. Efficiency of
brakes, and reliability of steering of new model has sharply
increased has soon entered into a saying.
Since then all models "Daimler" began to be
called "Меrcedes".
